Part of me doesn’t even know where to begin – so I’ll start with my condolences, my love, and my prayers for all of the people affected by the Vegas shooting. It makes me sick to know that there are so many people that went out for a night of fun and it was ended by the fire of a gun. There are people who paid for a night of memories they’ll never forget – and that’s exactly what they got.
I can’t imagine being in the shoes of the men and women throwing themselves over their loved ones to prevent them from being struck by bullets.
Moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, husbands, and wives were shot and killed, shot and injured, or watched their loved ones get murdered.
and our responses it to discuss gun control, race, and religion.
I’m probably not the first to say it – but I’ll say it again anyway. It is not in the least bit okay to stand on the graves of 50+ people to elevate your political agenda.
Evil exists, guys. I wish it didn’t and I wish I could explain it but I honestly cannot. Whether you lean to the left or to the right, you’re white, black, brown, yellow, or red. Whether you’re a Christian, a Buddhist, or a Muslim…. whatever your sexual orientation or gender identity is – evil exists.
It exists outside of your political affiliation, race, ethnicity, and religion. Evil exists within a damaged heart and when you feed into the fire of hatred with more hatred and anger – it grows.
This isn’t an issue of gun control or race – this is an issue of how we choose to react to tragedy in this world.
It doesn’t matter who this man prayed to, what gender he identified as. It doesn’t matter what the color of his skin was or who he voted into presidency – he does not embody an entire demographic and utilizing his hatred to press your hatred and own agenda brings 0 of these people back to life.
Do you realize that the last “worst mass shooting in American history” was literally less than 16 months ago? You had 16 months to post urgently about how badly this country needed “gun control.” You had 16 months to rectify your behaviors. You had 16 months to type out paragraphs about political arguments and general disagreements.
But today – you don’t get that right. The victims of this shooting are not a punchline for your political agenda. Today, there are families of 50+ people who are sitting in their rooms wishing they said “i love you” one last time. Wishing they would have hugged their loved ones tighter and smiled at a stranger.
“Few burdens are heavy, when everyone lifts.”
Do you know who has the power to make a difference? All of us. Together. Do you know what stifles hate? Perpetual love. Do you know what combats anger? Peace within yourself.
I learned at a young age that no one could chase you if you stop running, so face the issue head on and let’s change it.
The government isn’t going to change evil unless we all learn to love.
Instead of finding a reason to spark your angry debates & point your “I told you so” fingers – tell the people you love that you love them. When you think words of love – say them out loud. When you see someone being bullied or picked on – don’t stand by and watch it. Don’t laugh at others’ expense and stop dismissing the “little things.” Quit posting about how much you love someone after they die and start showing them that love openly when they’re still here right next to you.
I’m not saying being nice to people will change the world, but one day at a time it could change someone’s world – love is contagious & the more you love others the faster it’ll spread. There’s a way to soften hearts and it’s not through trying to prove that you’re right when it comes to social and political constructs.
